A point of light in winter nights

In Ushguli, winter lasts almost six months. When the first heavy snow falls and the passes close, the settlement seems to be cut off from the outside world. The people who live here carry on with life at an entirely different rhythm.

The village has only one public school, where about twenty children study. Through the long, cold winter, getting the pupils to school is one of the main challenges.

We believe that filling their library with books will make learning richer and more interesting. Because fiction, and especially new translations and editions, is hard for these children to come by, book donors are the people who create that opportunity.

When the roads close, the local school becomes the one point of light that connects the pupils to the outside world and to each other. That is how the book you give can become the best companion for the long winter nights.
