Tusheti

Life in Tusheti means submitting to the mountain’s hard rules: the only road up to Omalo opens for just a few months of the year.

Books can only be delivered during those few months — before the first snow closes the pass again until the following spring.

That is why, at the start of every June, when nature wakes, couriers and volunteers set out together on a difficult and demanding journey. Every pupil waits for these days especially.

Carefully chosen books help the local schools make lessons more varied throughout the year.

When the villages empty almost completely in autumn and only a few families remain, these books become true companions for the children, filling the cold winter days with adventure and new knowledge.
