Before snow closes the pass

Life in Tusheti also means submitting to the strict rules of the mountains, because the only motor road to Omalo opens for just a few months a year.

Delivering books is possible only in those few months, before the first snow closes the pass until the following spring.

That is why, at the start of every June, as nature wakes up, couriers and volunteers set out together on a hard and responsible journey. Every pupil looks forward to those days in particular.

Specially selected literature helps the local schools make learning more varied all year round.

When the villages almost empty in autumn and only a few families remain, these books become true guides for the children, filling their cold winter days with fascinating adventures and new knowledge.
